Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Go Straight to the Royal Drama in Their Documentary’s Trailer

The much-buzzed-about-but-never-confirmed-by-Netflix Meghan Markle and Prince Harry docuseries has now been confirmed by Netflix. The streamer released the first teaser for the project this morning, sharing it would be coming soon. “Harry & Meghan. A Netflix Global Event. Coming soon, only on Netflix,” the streamer wrote.

Page Six reported at the end of November that it’s actually being pretty imminently released: on December 8, next week.

Meghan and Harry appeared in the teaser, along with never-before-seen personal photos from their relationship, and went straight into the royal drama and tabloid scrutiny that plagued them during their time as senior royal family members. The two were asked why they wanted the make the documentary.

“No one sees what’s happening behind closed doors. I had to do everything I could to protect my family,” Harry answered.

“When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?” Meghan added.

Meghan teased the project would share more of her and Harry’s love story during an interview with The Cut at the end of August.

“The piece of my life I haven’t been able to share, that people haven’t been able to see, is our love story,” Meghan told the outlet. She then quoted from the end of her wedding speech where she said she took comfort in the “resounding knowing that, above all, love wins. I hope that is the sentiment that people feel when they see any of the content or the projects that we are working on.”

To Variety, she expanded a bit, explaining they had to trust someone else, director Liz Garbus, to tell their story.

“It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story—a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired—even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it. But that’s not why we’re telling it,” Meghan said. “We’re trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens.”

“It’s interesting,” she continued. ”My husband has never worked in this industry before. For me, having worked on Suits, it’s so amazing to be around so much creative energy and to see how people work together and share their own points of view. That’s been really fun.”
