Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Rep Responds to Report Bringing Them Into Kate Middleton Photo Story

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry broke their silence after a Page Six report inserted them into the conversation around the pulled U.K. Mother’s Day photo of Kate Middleton.

The Associated Press, Reuters, Getty Images, and AFP removed the photo that Kate and Prince William supplied them on Sunday due to suspected manipulation. On Monday, Kensington Palace shared a statement from Kate where she admitted to editing the photo and apologized. Outlets have since identified at least 16 editing errors in the photo.

Since then, an insider supposedly “close to” Meghan and Harry tried to compare them to Kate and William, claiming to Page Six, “If Harry and Meghan had ever encountered the same issue they would have been annihilated. The same rules do not apply to both couples. This isn’t a mistake that Meghan would ever make … she has a keen eye and freakish attention to detail.”

However, Meghan and Harry’s spokesperson spoke out against Page Six’s report, telling Newsweek, “With respect to Page Six, that did not come from us.”

The Mother’s Day photo of Kate drew so much attention because it marked the first clear new photo of her following her abdominal surgery in January.

Kate has been recovering at home, but people online questioned her whereabouts, as she hadn’t been seen publicly since Christmas, and details about her health condition has been kept private.

Her spokesperson hit back at those conspiracy theories at the end of February. They told Us Weekly, “Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the princess’ recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates. That guidance stands.” They added that Kate is continuing to do “well.”

Kate’s surgery was announced on January 17, one day after the procedure was completed.

“[It] was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the Palace wrote on Instagram. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter [March 31, 2024].

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private. Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.

“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologize to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
