When to Watch New Episodes of Outlander Season 8

The Starz show, adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s historical fiction series of the same name, follows the epic love story between Claire Beauchamp Randall (Caitríona Balfe) and Highlander Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), whom she meets after she time travels from the 20th century to the 18th century. The pair develop a passionate romance that plays out over hundreds of years and a total of 10 books, with the final book—A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out—yet to be released.
Outlander first premiered in 2014, and with season 8 it will wrap after 12 years on the air—as such, Balfe and Heughan have expressed how difficult it has been to put this chapter of their careers behind them.
“At the end of season 7, I certainly felt I wasn’t ready to walk away,” Heughan said in a March 5 interview with People, one day before the premiere episode of the final season. “I still had an itch to scratch, and I think the fans would’ve felt that as well, but it’s hard. How do you tie up something like this?”
“We sort of said our goodbyes a year and a half ago, and now this is the final goodbye,” Balfe shared in a March 4 interview with WWD. “I think the fans are ready to see it, and I think we’re ready for them to see it as well.”
The final season of Outlander, per the official synopsis, sees the Frasers confronted with “the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together. While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun.”
Executive producer Maril Davis mirrored Heughan and Balfe’s comments about the show ending. In a February 10 interview with Entertainment Weekly, she said, “It’s tough to end the TV series before the book series concludes. I think no matter what ending we have, it’s going to be bittersweet.”
