Chaos at Central University as vendors demand refunds after SRC Week cancellation

Tension erupted at Central University after the abrupt cancellation of the remaining activities for this year’s SRC Week, leaving several vendors frustrated and demanding refunds.

One vendor, who said she travelled from Amasaman to the university campus to participate in the event, claimed she paid a vendor fee of GHS1,000 and spent an additional GHS250 transporting her goods to the venue.

“I paid GHS1,000 and brought all my items here only to be told the programme has been cancelled,” she lamented.

Another vendor expressed disappointment over what she described as a lack of communication from both the university management and the SRC executives. According to her, she only learned about the cancellation through a friend who saw the information on Snapchat.

In a separate video sighted by Metro TV, an aggrieved vendor is seen demanding a refund and accusing the SRC of fraud over the handling of the situation.

The cancellation follows an incident involving the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), which reportedly stormed the university campus during SRC Week activities and arrested several students.

In a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, Central University confirmed reports that five individuals are currently in NACOC custody following an incident linked to SRC Week celebrations.

The university said it is engaging NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts surrounding the matter and obtain verified information.

“At this stage, the University is engaging with NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts and obtain verified information regarding the circumstances surrounding the matter,” the statement said.

Management added that it would avoid speculation while investigations are ongoing and allow due process to take its course.

As a precautionary measure, the university announced the suspension of all remaining SRC Week activities pending a review of the incident and existing event management protocols.

“All remaining SRC Week activities have been suspended pending a review of the circumstances surrounding the incident and existing event management protocols,” the statement noted.

The university further assured students, staff, parents, alumni and the public that it is cooperating fully with authorities and remains committed to maintaining discipline, safety and institutional integrity on campus.

All attempts to reach the Central University’s SRC have proven futile.

Meanwhile, affected vendors continue to call for answers and refunds, insisting they should not bear the financial losses resulting from the sudden cancellation of the event.
