THE RUNDOWN

  • Billie Eilish did not attend the 2026 Met Gala.
  • The singer is gearing up for the release of her new concert film.
  • She has built a reputation for challenging traditional red carpet norms through proportion and styling.

Billie Eilish opted to skip the Met Gala tonight, choosing instead to focus on the ongoing press tour for her upcoming concert film, Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D).

Eilish was recently photographed on April 28 in London, where she attended a premiere event for the project. Known for her gender-defying style, the singer has long approached fashion with a distinct perspective that prioritizes silhouette, comfort, and concept over convention, and her look on the Hit Me Hard and Soft U.K. red carpet was no exception: She wore a Celine double-breasted blazer with a blue shirt, striped tie, and sneakers.

On other recent red carpets, Eilish has similarly experimented with tailoring and proportion. At the 2026 Grammys, she wore a custom HODAKOVA look crafted from upcycled deadstock fabric, featuring layered suiting elements and visible construction details that emphasized sustainability and added to the structure.

“I’m not the first person who’s worn baggy clothes,” Eilish told ELLE in her May 2026 cover story. “I had a really, really toxic relationship with my body. I had a lot of eating issues. I remember putting on, like, a big shirt and the relief that I felt.”

Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), which Eilish co-directed with James Cameron, documents her 2025 tour and expands her work into filmmaking. Reflecting on the process, Eilish told ELLE, “At first I was like, ‘I don’t want to do a documentary.’”

She added, “I shot a documentary when I was 15 to 18, just being filmed for three years straight.…I’m so private about my actual life now.” But when Cameron displayed interest in her work, their ultimate collaboration proved fruitful.

“Usually, things go through the team and the managers,” Eilish explained. “But it was literally my mom who told me, ‘Hey, James Cameron has been really obsessed with your show from afar.’”

Cameron himself told ELLE, “I came to admire and respect her drive as an artist. How she manifests her artistic goals, not just to create beautiful music, but also to be a great performer. She was really the architect and creative guiding force on her show…It occurred to me that she and I should codirect this film.”

Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) lands in theaters on May 8.
