Police interdict seven officers over alleged extortion in Accra

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven personnel over an alleged extortion incident involving a patrol team in Accra.

The officers are accused of demanding money from a member of the public and allegedly forcing the victim to withdraw the money from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for them.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Staff Officer of the Public Affairs Unit, Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah, the Service identified the interdicted personnel as Inspector Courage Boateng, General Sergeant Stephen Addo and General Corporal Moses Anyravi.

The others are General Corporal Prosper Adiabo, General Lance Corporal Samuel Anokye, General Constable Henrietta Coleman and General Constable Bernard Amoako.

The interdiction is intended to facilitate investigations by the Police Professional Standards Bureau into the allegations.

The Police Service said the matter would be thoroughly investigated and assured the public that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
