How to Stream ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’

In October, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon was highly anticipated, but it had relatively low turnout at the box office. Though the movie had a reported $200 million budget, it only brought in about $23.2 million domestically and $44 million worldwide its opening weekend. Could it be that everyone has been waiting for the film to stream at home?

The movie, based on a book of the same name by David Grann, had stellar reviews and there has been a lot of buzz around the film’s stars as award season rolls out. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro, the story covers a series of murders committed against the Osage tribe as predatory prospectors moved in on the rights to Oklahoma oil fields in the 1920s. Gladstone has already been nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globes.

The break out actress grew up on the reservation of the Blackfeet Nation, and is Piegan Blackfeet and Nez Perce. The script and production was very informed by the Osage tribe, who added dimension to the original book, which focused heavily on the investigation around the murders.

“It just didn’t get to the heart of the Osage,” DiCaprio told Deadline of the original script. “It felt too much like an investigation into detective work, rather than understanding from a forensic perspective the culture and the dynamics of this very tumultuous, dangerous time in Oklahoma.”

He went on, “We were shooting there during the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa massacre, which was a half-hour car ride away from where the Osage reign of terror occurred and happened in the same year, 1921, as the first Osage murder. We were there for the Tulsa massacre and the return of the Flower Moon. It was cosmic insane coincidence that we were telling this story, 100 years later.”

In preparation for the film’s potential wins, here’s how to watch Killers of the Flower Moon on streaming.

Apple has partnered with Paramount Pictures for distribution of Killers Of The Flower Moon, Variety reports, and it should be available on Apple TV+ starting on Friday, January 12, 2024. It’s already possible to rent or buy the epic saga on Prime Video, priced respectively at $19.99 and $24.99. This might be the best option for people who don’t already have Apple TV+ subscriptions and just want one time access to watching at home.
