If we’re talking about listening to Beyoncé’s new album Renaissance, then the answer is probably no. The 16-track LP, brimming with dance floor anthems, sexy club bangers, and unparalleled party tunes, is a nonstop good time. These are songs that make you want to get up and dance, like “Cuff It,” with its joyous disco feel. (Nile Rogers’ influence is palpable; he has a writing credit, too).

“I feel like falling in love / I’m in the mood to fuck something up,” Beyoncé sings right at the start, setting the flirtatious and carefree vibe for the rest of the song. While the title hints at serious, long-term relationships, the track feels fit for exciting flings or, let’s be honest, thriving as a single person too.

It’s almost a surprise a work exuberant as Renaissance was recorded during the pandemic, as Beyoncé revealed in a message on her website yesterday, but that’s also the time she “found to be the most creative.”

She wrote, “Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgement. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. I was a beautiful journey of exploration.”
