Makinde, Obaseki, others okay 2020 revised budgets – Punch Newspapers

OYO, Edo, Imo, Ogun and Enugu State governors have signed their various revised 2020 budgets into law.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State approved the revised N174 bn 2020 state budget, which he signed into law on Wednesday.

 Giving his assent to the revised budget at the Government House in Ibadan, Makinde said the second review of this year’s budget was necessitated by the economic meltdown.

Also, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has signed the revised 2020 Appropriation Bill into law with a pledge to make necessary sacrifices to ensure the sustenance of critical sectors of the state’s economy amid disruptions caused by COVID-19.

The budget, which was reduced by 30 per cent from N179bn to N128.8bn, was signed into law on Wednesday after the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, and the leadership of the House presented it to the governor at the Government House in Benin City.

Obaseki said the budget was coming at an unusual time when the COVID-19 pandemic had imposed certain challenges.

In Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodinma, signed into law the 2020 revised budget bill of N108,385,836,130.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

In Enugu, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi signed in to law the revised 2020 budget of N146,374,641,080.00 as against the earlier approved budget of N169,557,658,300.00.

A statement by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Louis Amoke, indicated that the revised budget, which was passed by State House of Assembly on Wednesday, was in response to the consequences of the outbreak of COVID-19 on the economy

Meanwhile, the Ogun State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the revised  2020 appropriation  (Amendment) Law, which was cut down to N280 billion, representing 38 per cent from N450bn of the initial budget.
