Aiyedatiwa assures corps members of safety

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has assured corps members deployed to the state of a safe, peaceful and conducive environment throughout their one-year national service.

Aiyedatiwa gave the assurance during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members deployed to Ondo State, held at Ikare-Akoko.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Segun Henry Omoyofunmi, the governor said the security and welfare of corps members remained priorities of his administration.

“Let me assure you that the security and welfare of corps members remain important priorities of this administration.

“The state government will continue to work closely with the NYSC and relevant security agencies to ensure that corps members serving in Ondo State enjoy a safe, peaceful and conducive environment throughout their service year,” he said.

The governor urged the corps members to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, saying the skills acquired could help them become self-reliant after their service year.

“The skills you acquire through this programme can become valuable tools for self-reliance, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods beyond the service year.

“The Ondo State Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for young people to develop their talents, establish businesses and contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of our state,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa also advised the corps members to serve with integrity and discipline while respecting the people and institutions in their host communities.

He urged them to embrace diversity, build relationships across cultural and geographical boundaries, and remain committed to national unity and peaceful coexistence.

“I therefore charge you to uphold the rules and regulations of the NYSC scheme and to conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of responsible Nigerian youths.

“Be ambassadors of unity, agents of positive change and champions of peace wherever you find yourselves,” he added.

In her address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, also urged the corps members to take the SAED programme seriously.

She said the initiative offered practical and entrepreneurial skills that could enhance their economic independence and contribute to job creation.

“This initiative offers you practical and entrepreneurial skills that can enhance your economic independence and contribute to job creation.

“I urge you to take full advantage of the training opportunities available and to develop competencies that will remain relevant beyond your service year,” she said.

Bakare advised the corps members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC, their families and their institutions, urging them to serve with humility, integrity and dedication.

She also appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa for his continued support for the NYSC scheme and the welfare of corps members in the state.

The Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lanre Abiodun, urged the corps members to approach their service year with an open mind, a positive spirit and a determination to make meaningful contributions.

He also appealed for continued cooperation among government institutions, host communities, employers, traditional institutions, security agencies and other partners to enable corps members contribute effectively wherever they are deployed.
