ISD Takes Free Primary Healthcare Education to Paga JHS
On September 18, 2026, the District Information Officer for the Kasena-Nankana West District, Miss Agnes Achaah, led a team of three national officials—including the National Information Director, Madam Nafisah Mahama—to engage students of Paga Junior High School in an educational session on the government’s Free Primary Healthcare policy.
The sensitisation exercise forms part of a nationwide public education campaign being implemented by the Information Services Department (ISD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to create awareness about the policy and help citizens understand the healthcare services available to them.
Addressing the students, Madam Achaah explained that the Free Primary Healthcare initiative is designed to improve access to essential health services and encourage Ghanaians to seek early medical attention and undertake regular health screenings at health facilities, including CHPS compounds, clinics, and polyclinics.
She further outlined some of the services covered under Free Primary Healthcare, including screening for blood pressure, blood sugar, and other non‑communicable diseases; treatment of common illnesses; mental health support; family planning; antenatal care; newborn screening; disease prevention; health education; menstrual hygiene; and healthy lifestyle practices.
The District Information Officer also clarified that Free Primary Healthcare does not replace the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and does not require a separate healthcare card.
Madam Achaah emphasised that the mandate of the Information Services Department is to bring government policies and programmes closer to citizens through public education and sensitisation.
The Department noted that the campaign is being carried out in schools, markets, mosques, and other public spaces across communities, using various languages and communication approaches to ensure that people from all backgrounds can understand and benefit from the information.
Students were encouraged to take advantage of available primary healthcare services and cultivate the habit of seeking medical attention and regular health screenings when necessary.
The Information Services Department reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Ministry of Health to ensure that citizens in the Kasena-Nankana West District and beyond receive accurate information about the Free Primary Healthcare policy.
