Two jailed 20 years each for robbery at Edwenase

The Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced two men to 20 years’ imprisonment each for robbing a 16-year-old motorbike rider at Edwenase, near Jacobu.
The convicts are Emmanuel Adams, 23, a mine worker from Patase, and Vincent Aidoo, alias Kakai, 22, an Okada rider from Afoako.
According to the police prosecution, the incident occurred on October 4, 2026, when the complainant, Bismark Boafo, was using his unregistered Haojin motorbike to transport his mother, Madam Amonoo Gyamfua, from Edwenase to Atabrakoso at about 5:00 pm.
After dropping his mother off, Boafo was approached by the two men, who engaged him to convey them to Mile 9. He agreed to the request.
The prosecution said that upon reaching the outskirts of Edwenase, Adams deliberately removed his slippers and left them on the road before asking Boafo to stop so Aidoo could pick them up.
When the teenager stopped, Adams allegedly used an electric shocker on his neck, causing him to fall from the motorbike.
Boafo removed the ignition key and fled into the bush for his safety as the two men pursued him. When he later returned to the scene, he discovered that his motorbike had been taken.
The following day, October 5, 2026, Boafo reported the incident to the Jacobu Police, accompanied by his father, Kofi Boafo.
Police intelligence subsequently led to Adams’ arrest. During investigations, he reportedly identified Aidoo as his accomplice. Aidoo was later arrested in possession of the stolen motorbike, which was retrieved by the police.
The prosecution told the court that both men admitted their involvement in the offence in separate caution statements made in the presence of an independent witness.
Police officers later visited the scene, where Adams reportedly identified the exact location where the attack took place.
The two men were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and robbery, contrary to Section 149 of the same Act.
The court, presided over by His Honour Isaac Apeatu, sentenced each convict to 15 years’ imprisonment on the conspiracy charge and 20 years on the robbery charge.
The sentences are to run concurrently, meaning each convict will serve a total of 20 years in prison.
