Why Taylor Swift’s Light Green Outfits Have Fans Expecting an Album Announcement
THE RUNDOWN
- Fans believe Taylor Swift could imminently announce a new music project after she wore a light green outfit and the Empire State Building fueled theories with an X post last week.
- Swift has been wearing the same shade of pastel green throughout this year.
- It’s unclear what project Swift will release next, though fans speculate it could be the rerecording of her self-titled debut since its 20th anniversary is in October.
Taylor Swift fans have spotted signs for months that the singer could be announcing her 13th album soon, from Easter eggs in her outfits to sightings of her entering the recording studio. But in the last week, the speculation has hit a new fever pitch.
Yesterday, the Grammy Museum released a video of Swift’s interview there, where she wore a light green Dôen dress. Fans associate the color with her debut era—and the silk chiffon gown is just the latest outfit she has worn in the hue.
On Friday, the Empire State Building’s X post stoked more speculation that Swift is about to announce a new project.
It wrote, “WhatTS happening?” along with a photo of the building lit up in the same pastel green color as Swift’s outfit. (Yes, the “TS” capitalization in its X post isn’t subtle, either.)
The Empire State Building was famously lit up in blue on the night of Swift’s wedding as her “something blue.”
Could its TS be referring to a different artist? It’s possible, though Swift holds the trademark for her initials TS, per Billboard, making it difficult for other people to use them commercially.
Swift seems to have first started teasing this project back in March when she wore a light green Wiederhoeft outfit at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, marking her first red carpet appearance of the year.
Then in May, she wore drop earrings (which were previously owned by Elizabeth Taylor) featuring 13 opal stones in a similar pastel hue.
It’s unclear what project Swift could be releasing. Possibilities include an all-new 13th album, the re-recorded Taylor’s Version of her self-titled debut (which will turn 20 years old on October 24), or Reputation (Taylor’s Version). Many fans believe that because of her debut album’s milestone anniversary and the light green color being associated with that era, it’s likely something honoring that project.
It’s also not known when an announcement is coming. While Swift has used countdown clocks on her site in the past, none are currently active.
That said, the singer’s next awards show appearance could be in just weeks at a place where she has announced albums before. Swift is nominated for nine MTV VMAs this year; the ceremony is September 27.
Yesterday’s Grammy Museum interview marked Swift’s first public appearance since her July 3 wedding. She has kept a low profile since tying the knot, though on August 14, a source told People that she has been doing great.
She and her husband, Travis Kelce, are “both just so excited that they’re husband and wife now,” the insider said. “They’re both always working, creating, or thinking about what comes next. And they love living like this. They both feel really grateful for everything they have. They’re very happy.”
