Who is cast in My Brilliant Career?

Philippa Northeast

Australian actor Philippa Northeast leads the cast as Sybylla Melvyn, the young aspiring writer who is sent from her struggling family home to live with her wealthy grandmother in the hopes she will land a prosperous marriage.

Northeast is known for playing Evelyn MacGuire in Home and Away from 2013 to 2017. She’s also appeared in Netflix’s Territory, The Newsreader, The Family Next Door and In Limbo.

Christopher Chung

Slow Horses actor Christopher Chung plays Harry Beecham, Sybylla’s principal love interest, who lives nearby and shares her love for reading. Chung plays the MI5 hacker Roddy Ho in the aforementioned Apple TV show, and has also starred in Blitz and Doctor Who.

Anna Chancellor

Winifred Bossier, Sybylla’s wealthy grandmother, is played by Anna Chancellor, who you’ll recognize from Four Weddings and a Funeral, as well as the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and My Lady Jane.

Genevieve O’Reilly

Genevieve O’Reilly plays Sybylla’s widowed aunt, Helen Bossier, who lives at Caddagat. She played Mon Mothma across multiple projects in the Star Wars universe, and has also starred in The Dry and Glitch.

Kate Mulvany

Harry’s eccentric aunt Augusta Beecham is played by Kate Mulvany, who has appeared in Hunters and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, as well as the Australian drama The Twelve.

Jake Dunn

Jake Dunn plays Englishman Frank Hawden, who works at Caddagat and becomes another potential romantic prospect for Sybylla. Dunn has appeared in What It Feels Like for a Girl and Renegade Nell.

Alexander England

Alexander England, whose credits include The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart and Black Snow, plays Julius Bossier, Sybylla’s uncle.
