King Charles Has Reportedly Offered Royal Accommodations for Harry and Meghan’s Visit With Their Kids
THE RUNDOWN
- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are bringing their children to the U.K. for the first time in four years.
- King Charles has reportedly offered them accommodations on the royal estate during their visit.
- It’s unclear if they have accepted the invitation.
In July, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have plans to head to the U.K., kicking off preparations for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Harry hosts the sporting competition for service personnel and veterans all around the world and the upcoming games will bring him to his home country.
Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are returning to the UK, it’s been a question how much they will be interacting with the royal family after several fraught years. However, People reports that King Charles has offered royal accommodations to the Sussexes and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
The couple was last with the royal family in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. Meghan and Harry were seen at Trooping the Colour and at St. Paul’s Cathedral, though their children were not photographed at the events. Meghan and Harry were also present at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral that September.
It’s not clear if the Sussexes have accepted the king’s invitation, but they would allegedly be hosted on the royal estate. Per People, the invitation would not come with additional security provisions, which are offered by the Home Office. Since moving to California in 2020 and stepping back as working members of the royal family, Harry, Meghan, and their children have lost access to tax-funded police protection. Harry has gone to court to have that privilege reinstated as he feels it’s unsafe to visit without it, to no avail. Harry has visited Charles solo, but not with his family.
In a statement to the High Court in London, Prince Harry said, “The U.K. is my home. The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States. That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil.”
He continued, “I can’t put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I’m reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.”
