Olivia Rodrigo Loves Yacht Rock, Cadbury Chocolate, and Louis Partridge on Her New Track ‘U+Me=<3’

Yacht rock evangelist Olivia Rodrigo is back with her newest album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So in Love, and on the fifth track, “U + Me = <3,” she states her feelings plainly: She will make no apologies for her love of smooth West Coast soft rock, nor for her love of silver jewelry, or for Cadbury chocolate (far superior to Hershey’s, in her estimation)—or, for that matter, her ex-boyfriend Louis Partridge.

The deeply catchy tune is indeed speculated to be about Enola Holmes actor Partridge, with whom Rodrigo is rumored to have split in late 2025 after two years together. The references are apparent: On “U + Me = <3,” she sings of her paramour’s “floppy hair” and “big sister.” (Partridge’s older sister is Issie Partridge, and regardless of your metric for floppiness, Partridge’s hair definitely has an easily identifiable swoop.) Even Rodrigo’s self-professed appreciation of British chocolate over American candy can be interpreted as a wink at Partridge, who himself is English. (As Rodrigo told Dazed in early June, “English chocolate is just so much better.”)

Rodrigo has named the inspiration for her new album outright, having told Dazed that its sound and lyrics are a result of her first “adult” relationship. “This album is about my first time being in an adult relationship; it’s me discovering what romantic love looks like in real time,” she said. “I’ve been in relationships before that were really exciting and tumultuous in a teenage way, but this was my first time being in a real, ‘big girl’ relationship. And when you’re in an intimate relationship, it holds up a mirror and shows you parts of yourself that you would never normally see. That was an endless source of inspiration—something that I’m still mining.”

[Verse 1]
I think that you’re killer
With your floppy hair
Take me out to dinner
You know you can take me anywhere

[Pre-Chorus]
And all of my girlfriends roll their eyes
And tell me to take it slow this time

[Chorus]
But I got a feeling wounds are healing, talking on the phone
I know everybody changes, but I hope that we don’t
Carve our names into the car seat leather
You plus me equals a heart forever
A heart forever, oh

[Verse 2]
I like your big sister
Shе has your same face
And I tried to win hеr
Over with my cynical humor and yacht-rock music taste

[Pre-Chorus]
And all my ex-boyfriends have heard these lines (Let’s get married when we’re 25)
But I like you better by a million times

[Chorus]
And I got a feeling wounds are healing, talking on the phone
I know everybody changes, but I hope that we don’t
Carve our names into the car seat leather
You plus me equals a heart forever
A heart forever, oh
A heart forever

[Bridge]
So buy me silver jewelry and all my favorite Cadbury
And tell me yet again about when we met and what you thought of me
Sometimes, I get overwhelmed and way too far ahead of myself
I often get the feeling that I’ll never want somebody else and

[Pre-Chorus]
They say modern love’s a cruel endeavor (They say it’s cruel)
And to that I say, “Fuck it, whatever” (Whatever)

[Chorus]
’Cause I got a feeling wounds are healing, talking on the phone
I know everybody changes, but I hope that we don’t
Carve our names into the car seat leather
You plus me equals a heart forever

[Post-Chorus]
And ever and ever and ever, oh
Forever and ever and ever, oh

[Outro]
Sounds good
