ABUJA — Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has urged political leaders to rise above divisions and focus on unity, justice and inclusive progress, using his Easter message to spotlight Nigeria’s urgent need for cohesion.

According to him, the season is a clear call for leadership that heals, unites, and takes responsibility for rebuilding trust across the country at a time of deep social and political strain.

In a statement he personally signed, Dogara, Chairman of the Board of the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited (NCGC), extended greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world, urging them to reflect on the deeper meaning of the season.

He described it as the most important event in the Christian calendar, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the foundation of the Christian faith, with lessons that remain sharply relevant today.

“Easter reminds us that through faith, trials are overcome and love triumphs over strife. It is a season to recommit ourselves to compassion, forgiveness and service,” Dogara said.

He noted that its message carries even greater weight in a world facing division, conflict and uncertainty.

According to him, it is not just a spiritual observance but also a call to action, one that challenges both leaders and citizens to rise above bitterness and work together for peace and prosperity.

“The resurrection of Christ challenges us to rise above bitterness, extend fellowship and work together for peace and prosperity,” he stated.

Dogara also pointed to the values of sacrifice, redemption and renewal as essential to building strong communities and a stable nation, urging Nigerians to draw inspiration from the season to promote justice, brotherhood and inclusive development.

He wished Christians a joyful celebration and prayed that the period would inspire believers to live as beacons of hope, guided by love and service in their daily lives.
