Riley Keough and Priscilla Presley Matched in Black at the Emmys Together

Riley Keough made a complete pivot from her Daisy Jones and the Six ’70s wardrobe at the Emmys tonight, and she brought a surprise plus-one, her grandmother, Priscilla Presley. The 2023 ceremony, which had originally been scheduled for September, was held this evening after being delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Keough attended as a nominee for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her work in Daisy Jones.

Fashion-wise, both Keough and Presley wore black dresses by Chanel. Keough spoke to Entertainment Tonight about bringing Presley to the show, saying, “It’s very special [having my family’s support]. I’m here with my grandmother and my husband. I feel lucky to have family here to support me.”

Presley and Keough are on better terms after having a dispute over the trust of Presley’s daughter and Keough’s mother, Lisa Marie Presley, following her death last January. Keough addressed their relationship in a September interview with Vanity Fair: When my mom passed, there was a lot of chaos in every aspect of our lives,” she said. “Everything felt like the carpet had been ripped out and the floor had melted from under us.”

She added that “everyone was in a bit of a panic to understand how we move forward, and it just took a minute to understand the details of the situation, because it’s complicated. We are a family, but there’s also a huge business side of our family. So I think that there was clarity that needed to be had.”

Business-wise, back in August, Keough spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how she chooses her projects. “It’s just really character-based for me, and then filmmaker-based, as well,” she said. “Obviously, you want the script to be good. But first and foremost, I want to connect with the character. And I like to do things that feel challenging and [that] I haven’t done before.”

As for portraying Daisy, she said, “The most challenging parts were the skills that I had to learn in order to play her, which were singing and playing guitar—two things I’ve never really done before. It’s probably the most I’ve ever done in terms of prep.”

Keough said she worked with an “incredible team of musicians, who were training us every single day. We had guitar teachers and piano teachers and our music supervisor, Frankie Pine, with us every day for months and months and months. I spent a lot of time watching as many [’70s rock] performances as I could from the era.”
