My Life With the Walter Boys Season 2: What We Know So Far

Spoilers ahead.

Netflix asked, and audiences have answered: There, apparently, are not yet enough Walter boys. The coming-of-age romantic drama series My Life with the Walter Boys, widely acknowledged as Netflix’s answer to Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, climbed the Netflix charts during the first week of December, but its cliffhanger ending begs the question: If not more Walter boys now, then when?

Based on the book of the same name by Ali Novak—initially published on Wattpad, and written when the author herself was only 15 years old—My Life with the Walter Boys follows 15-year-old Manhattanite Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) as she’s transplanted from New York to Colorado, following the tragic death of her family in a car accident. In the Colorado countryside, she’s taken under the wing of the Walters, a sweet, enormous family featuring a statistically absurd number of strapping young boys. None of these boys seem to pay much mind to the fact that Jackie’s—sort of, anyway—their sister now. The Walter brothers Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex (Ashby Gentry), in particular, almost immediately begin vying for her affections.

That leads us, necessarily, down the route of the rom-com love triangle, with Jackie dating Alex for a few episodes before she and Cole get the chance to have their big kiss in the end. Finally, Jackie’s called back to New York—this time with a purely platonic Walter boy, Danny, in tow—and must say goodbye to her other Walter boys…though that doesn’t negate the possibility of a family reunion, especially given her obvious lingering feelings for Cole.

Does My Life with the Walter Boys need a season 2? Not exactly. Fans of the book have already lived with its open-ended resolution for years, and the show faithfully reproduces that ending so as not to cause a Wattpad riot. But Novak has since indicated that the season finale isn’t likely to be the series finale. On her website FAQ, she recently wrote, “In the past I’ve said there won’t be a published sequel [to My Life with the Walter Boys.] However, now that the show has been released on Netflix, I may or may not be working on something exciting!” That certainly seems like a strong hint of more Walter Boys to come.
