Joe Jonas Filed for Divorce From Sophie Turner, Calling Marriage ‘Irretrievably Broken’

Despite Joe Jonas’ latest Instagram post featuring him wearing his wedding ring, his marriage to Sophie Turner is ending—and he pulled the trigger. Today.com broke the news that Jonas filed divorce papers today in Miami. He asked for joint custody of their two daughters, aged 3 and 1. According to the outlet, in the filing, Jonas wrote, “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.” TMZ also confirmed the news.

The Blast and TMZ reported that Turner and Jonas have a prenup. The Blast shared details earlier, reporting that sources described it as ironclad. Jonas will keep his music royalties, and Turner will keep her television and film earnings. Any property acquired before their marriage will stay in the owner’s name and, in the case of their divorce now, remain the property of that owner. The only things the couple will need to work out in court, The Blast reported, is child custody and child support.

TMZ reported earlier in the week that Jonas and Turner had been having trouble for at least six months. Turner has been filming a project in the U.K., the ITVX series Joan, since May.

Turner’s rep did not return comments when reports first broke that Jonas had retained divorce attorneys. A source told TMZ that the couple’s “very different lifestyles” were a factor in Jonas’ filing.

TMZ’s sources said it is likely that Jonas will ask for “significantly more than 50 percent physical custody.

Turner and Jonas first started dating in 2016 when Turner was just 20 years old. Jonas is seven years older than her. They got engaged a year later, then married in May 2019. They welcomed their first daughter Willa in July 2020 and a second daughter in 2022.

Turner spoke to ELLE UK in May 2022 about how much she wanted to move back to the U.K. for her mental health. “I miss England so much,” she said. “The people, the attitude, everything. I’m slowly dragging my husband back. I really love living in America but, for my mental health, I have to be around my friends and my family. And also for my daughter–I would love her to get the education and school life that I was so lucky to have. England would ideally be the final destination, but [Joe] might take quite a bit of convincing!”
