Hill House Home’s Autumnal Chic Revival Is Here

Some might say Hill House Home’s Nap Dress helped fashion girls sartorially survive the pandemic. The easy silhouette changed fashion culture as we know it in the early 2020s with its comfortable silhouettes, fun prints, and flattering shapes. Nell Diamond launched the brand in January 2016, but the pandemic only accelerated the need for cottagecore-fueled dresses that spoke to both creature comforts and fantasy dressing through the girl gaze. Put simply: It was the epitome of elevated pajama dressing in a world where we often didn’t know what to wear. The humble dress still remains a favorite of fashion insiders and beyond. But now comes the next chapter. A decade after Hill House Home launched, the brand is expanding into jackets, blazers, coats, and skirts—and most of all, pants, for fall.

The new collection (and expansion) is rife with classic fall imagery, with a dark, English-inspired aesthetic. “I grew up in London, and so much of my design point of view comes from the contrast between London polish and the romance of the English countryside,” Diamond tells ELLE. The campaign was shot across London and the Cotswolds, fully devoted to all the autumnal hues and prints: rich navy, camel, plaid, paisley. Diamond calls it “more ways to get dressed, without losing the sense of romance and practicality that has always been at the heart of the brand.”

Hill House Home has slowly but surely been gearing up for the expansion. Last year, the brand launched the Clarisse Jacket, which sold out instantly. The fall collection introduces tons of outerwear options and lots of pants, which feels truly groundbreaking for a brand that was built off of dresses. “When we launched the Nap Dress, it gave us this incredible foundation and helped us articulate our design philosophy: you shouldn’t have to choose between feeling beautiful, feeling put together, and feeling comfortable,” says Diamond. “Now we’re taking that same philosophy and applying it to a much bigger wardrobe: pants, jackets, separates, and, later this fall, long coats. We’re thinking about the woman who loves her Hill House dresses and asking what else she wants to wear.”

As for the Nap Dress, it’s not going anywhere. The label is still pumping out the wardrobe MVP as per usual, with a few more elevated takes—like fabrics that mimic lace, for instance. There are also Nap Tops. “We’re not trying to become everything to everyone,” says Diamond. “We’re building a wardrobe very intentionally around the woman we already know and love dressing. The Nap Dress introduced so many women to the brand, and I’m incredibly proud of that, but it also taught us something much bigger about how women want to dress. They want beauty and ease; romance and practicality; pieces that feel special without requiring a special occasion.”
