Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Visiting the UK and Germany This September

After spending the bulk of 2022 keeping a very low profile, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are jetting off to Europe for events in Düsseldorf, Germany and the UK’s Manchester and London from Sept. 5 through 8. A spokesperson for the couple explained to Harper’s Bazaar why Meghan and Harry are visiting each location.

On Sept. 5, Meghan and Harry will be in Manchester for the One Young World Summit, where Meghan will give “a keynote address during the opening ceremony for young leaders,” the outlet wrote. Additionally, the two will “meet with a group of summit delegates ‘doing outstanding work on gender equality,’” the couple’s spokesperson said.

Meghan and Harry will spend the next day in Düsseldorf, Germany for an Invictus Games “One Year to Go” event. The Twitter account for the games confirmed the news, writing, “We are pleased to announce that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be joining us in Düsseldorf on the 6th September to mark one year to go until the Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023! More information coming soon.”

Meghan and Harry will then fly back to England for the Well Child Awards on Sept. 8; Harry has been a patron for the charity since 2007. At this point, it is not known whether Harry and Meghan will meet with the royal family, but it’s not at all out of the realm of possibility that the two will enjoy some quiet family time abroad.

Harry spoke in April about how close he is to the Queen in particular. In fact, he and Meghan visited her before going to the Hague in the Netherlands for this year’s Invictus Games.

“Being with her, it was great,” Harry said of him and Meghan reuniting with the Queen this past spring. “It was just so nice to see her. She’s on great form. She’s always got a great sense of humor with me, and I’m just making sure that she’s, you know, protected and got the right people around her.”

“We have a really special relationship,” he added of him and his grandmother. “We talk about things she can’t talk about with anyone else.”

Harry and Meghan returned to the UK briefly for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee events in June, where they introduced the Queen to their daughter Lilibet for the first time.
