Blackpink Will Make Their U.S. Awards Show Debut at the VMAs This Month

The global sensation Blackpink is ushering in the Blink 2.0 era with a new album, a massive world tour, and, now, their first-ever U.S. awards-show pit stop, set for August 28’s MTV Video Music Awards. At the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, the K-pop girl group will perform their upcoming single, “Pink Venom,” for the first time live in America.

The Blackpink girls—Lisa, Rosé, Jennie, and Jisoo—are nominated for the brand-new “Best Metaverse Performance” category at the VMAs this year, up against fellow K-pop group BTS, as well as Charli XCX, Justin Bieber, Rift Tour ft. Ariana Grande, and Twenty One Pilots. (It’s worth noting Blackpink will not be performing their metaverse song, “Ready For Love,” as created for PUBG Mobile.) Nevertheless, they’re the favorite to snag the Moon Person for a second year in a row, after winning in the “Song of the Summer” category at last year’s ceremony.

This year’s VMAs will be broadcast on MTV and the CW Network for the third year in a row, with the show kicking off on Sunday, August 28, at 8 p.m. EST. It’s as yet unclear when Blackpink will perform during the award show’s typical three-hour runtime.

An August performance heralds a busy season for the band, as they launch the album Born Pink in September and embark on a continent-spanning world tour in October, one planned to stretch well into June 2023.
