Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Officially in the UK and Have Reportedly Been Given Police Protection

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, are officially in England for the first time as a family of four ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee events, Hello! reports. According to the Daily Mail, the couple left LAX airport for the 12-hour flight last night and were set to land in London this afternoon local time. Tomorrow, the Queen will have her Trooping the Colour parade, which a source told the Mail that Meghan and Harry are set to attend as spectators. The Queen is only having working senior royal family members join her on the balcony.

TMZ also reports that Meghan and Harry are being provided high-level police security while in England for the Jubilee events they attend. They will be staying at Frogmore Cottage, their Windsor home.

“The Met’s Royalty and Specialist Protection unit has been working with Harry’s crew to get him taxpayer-funded officers over the past weeks,” TMZ wrote of security arrangements. “The family will get armed police protection while at royal events or at Frogmore Cottage.”

Harry took legal action earlier this year, claiming through his lawyer that he did not feel safe bringing his family over without police protection. Per the Associated Press, Harry “wants to be able to pay for the protection” and claimed “his private security team in the U.S. doesn’t have adequate jurisdiction abroad or access to U.K. intelligence information.”

Harry spoke to The Today Show’s Hoda Kotb in April about how he wasn’t sure whether his family would attend Jubilee due to security concerns. “There’s a lot of things with security issues and everybody else,” Harry said. “This is what I’m trying to do, make it possible for my kids to meet her.”
