Jada Pinkett Smith Addresses Will Smith Oscars Slap and Shares Her Hopes for Him and Chris Rock

Jada Pinkett Smith is ready to address her husband Will Smith’s Oscars slap more at length. She started a new episode of Red Table Talk with brief remarks about the incident and her hopes for Smith and Chris Rock to make up. “My deepest hope is that these two intelligent capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile,” she said. “The state of the world today, we need them both.”

In case you somehow missed it, during this year’s Oscars ceremony, Smith shocked the world when he got out of his seat, walked on stage, and slapped Rock while he was presenting. Rock had made an insensitive joke about Pinkett Smith looking like “G.I. Jane” with her shaved haircut. Pinkett Smith has been vocal about having alopecia, a hair loss condition. She devoted the latest episode of Red Table Talk to the disease. Rock reportedly wasn’t aware that Pinkett Smith had alopecia.

At the start of the episode, she said, via Deadline, “This is a really important Red Table Talk on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories. I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition, and to inform people about what alopecia actually is. Now about Oscar night: my deepest hope is that these two intelligent capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile. The state of the world today, we need them both and we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s to keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”
