EDO CENTRAL PDP SPECIAL COMMITTEE MEETS PDP ASPIRANTS
. *.. aspirants express confidence in the Committee*
The Special Committee set up by the leadership of the PDP in Edo Central Senatorial District to screen the party's governorship aspirants from the Senatorial District, met with the aspirants on Sunday, December 3, 2023. The meeting took place in the Igueben home of the National leader who is also the leader of the Special Committee, High Chief Tom Ikhimi.
In attendance were 7 out of the 9 aspirants that have sent their intent to contest the governorship position to the Senatorial Chairman, Bishop Anthony Okosun.
Aspirants present were:

3. Amb. Martins Uhomoibhi
4. Rt. Hon. Friday Itulah
5. Barr. Anselm Ojezua
6. Barr. Asue Ighodalo
7. Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun
Hon. Felix Akhabue and Barr. Arthur Esene sent in their apologies.
The Senatorial Chairman, Bishop Anthony Okosun in his welcome remarks, appreciated the aspirants for having faith in the party.
Sir Chief Tom Ikhimi told the aspirants that the Special Committee was formed by the Senatorial District Executive Committee in line with section 19 (2) of the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended). He assured them that the Committee will not be biased in arriving at its recommendations for the best candidate that can win the coming governorship elections.
He urged the aspirants to support whosoever emerges promising that the process will be transparent. He also advised that local governments with more than one aspirant, should be able to harmonize them. He said that the Committee will agree on the criteria to use for the screening. Chief Ikhimi informed them that the Committee in arriving at its recommendations, will consult with traditional rulers and party leaders from Edo South and Edo North Senatorial Districts.
Dr. Francis Ulinfun, Hon. Clifford Inegbedion, Hon. Lawrence Odiase, Mrs Herbeta Okonofua-Ayu, Chief Omi Imoisili, Rt. Hon Joe Edionwele and Mrs Maria Edeko, all advised the aspirants to put party and Edo interest in the fore front. They acknowledged that all the aspirants are qualified to be Governor of Edo State but they should know that only one can be the candidate. They said that the Committee will not accept any campaign of calumny and divisiveness.
Responding, all the aspirants said that they were impressed by the show of quality leadership by the party leaders noting that such a move would have averted the ugly experiences of the last elections. They all pledged to accept the decision of the Committee and work to ensure victory for the PDP during the elections.

The meeting was adjourned to a later date to be communicated for screening of the aspirants with a view to pruning down the number.
