The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Barr. Andrew Adaze Emwanta who represented the governor at the 25 years anniversary celebrations of Independent Television, in Benin City yesterday said the Owner of ITV, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin when he started off was the first in everything he did and that is the Edo spirit.
“The first private airline owner, the one that got the first license to run a private university and ITV is the very first he has recorded also. On the digital switch over policy, I am glad to watch Edo Broadcasting Service, EBS and ITV on Gold TV and we are part of that policy which starts off in June.
“The governor has made it a priority to put all infrastructure right, starting with power. We have had this power problem for a long time until the governor recently approved access to the Ossiomo power. As we speak, in the Nigerian Observer we have uninterrupted power supply.
“There is no development you can embark upon without electricity. You will agree with me that when you move around at Night, Benin City now wear a new look. This is not diesel powered but gas powered uninterrupted and Edo people now have value for taxes they pay.
The Commissioner reassured the management of ITV and the Esama of Benin that the state government will continue to give them support because the Edo State government is number client of the ITV, while others have come and gone we remain constant as the Northern star.
“That is the message from the state governor, we will continue to work with you, we are very grateful that you have turned 25 years and it is our expectation that in the next twenty five years you will witness a transition that will get you to where CNN, FOX and BBC have got to.
“It is very possible because it is the Edo dream and to make Edo Great Again is collective and we are happy that ITV is blazing the trail. When we look at 25 years, it has been 25 years of good reportage and as a state government, the station keep us on our toes.
“In the broadcasting industry in the Niger Delta, if you talk of the three private stations, Channels, AIT and ITV are owned by Edo people. There is no better way to make Edo Great Again
