Family of Gbewaa Training College lecturer killed by curfew soldiers vows legal action after autopsy

The family of Issaka Abdulai, a lecturer at Gbewaa College of Education who allegedly died after an encounter with military personnel in Bawku, is considering legal action if a special autopsy confirms that he was assaulted.

The family is awaiting the findings of the autopsy, ordered by the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohonu, to determine the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s death.

His remains have been conveyed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where the examination is expected to establish the cause of death and assess claims that he was beaten.

George Awagalsi, a brother of the deceased, told Citi News that the family would decide on its next steps after receiving the autopsy report.

“We are waiting for the report. If the report confirms what we have heard from the ground and what we have also witnessed, the next line of action will be legal action,” he said.

Issaka Abdulai was reportedly assaulted by military personnel deployed to Bawku on Friday, September 11, 2026.

The alleged incident occurred while he was riding his motorcycle home from work, shortly after the start of the curfew.

The family hopes the autopsy will clarify the events leading to his death and determine whether the reported assault played a role in it.
