Breanna Stewart Perfected the Art of the Family ‘Fit at WNBA All-Star Weekend
3 min readAs a mother of two, WNBA All-Star Weekend looks a little different for Breanna Stewart these days. “As you can see, we’re in the midst of chaos,” the eight-time All-Star tells me, gesturing to her two children, Ruby, 4, and Theo, 2, as they zoom around the family’s hotel suite ahead of our interview.
Though her wife, Marta Xargay Casademont, and kids have been accompanying the New York Liberty star to All-Star Weekends for years now, Stewart says this one was extra special. “Ruby is old enough now that she’s understanding it,” she says. “For her to be able to get dressed up and walk the orange carpet with me and see what I do when I’m not on the basketball court, it was really cool to share that moment with her.”
Stewart says the highlight of her weekend was stepping out in their “first nice family fit.” On Thursday night, Stewart, Xargay Casademont, and the kids wore black, blue, and white striped outfits. Stewart tells me she purchased Ruby’s dress and Theo’s shirt, both by Off-White, first during a trip to Atlanta “a month ago, before I even knew what I was going to wear.” She ended up finding a perfectly coordinated Public School ensemble for herself and a fit by Acne Studios for Marta, and “it all really just tied together,” Stewart says. “I did good,” she adds with a sly, proud smile.
Her wife chimes in to let me know Off-White is not the norm for her kids. “I don’t buy expensive things for them,” Xargay Casademont says. “I was really nervous they were going to mess it up,” Stewart adds. “Getting ketchup on an Off-White shirt sounds awful to me.”
Her favorite recent purchase was a blue Goyard bag and matching wallet. “Marta’s mad at me because I didn’t buy one for her,” Stewart notes. She also says she loves her new Coach Empire 40 that she carried to events throughout the weekend.
Stewart says that while she has a stylist, Jan-Michael Quammie, her wife also helps her pick her outfits. “When we’re not doing tunnel fits or big events, she’ll help me put an outfit together and vice versa. I help her pick out her outfits too, to make sure that we’re going well together.” She also says Xargay Casademont has been known to borrow her clothes. “She wears my clothes more than I wear her clothes,” Stewart explains. “Because for her, my clothes could be worn oversized. But for me, I’m like, ‘I don’t want to go smaller.’”
Reflecting on her personal style, Stewart says she started coming into her own between 2019 and 2021. “That’s when I really found out what I liked—the brands that I like, how I want my clothes to be fitting—oversized sometimes, but I also can wear high-waisted and tiny tees too,” she says. “I would describe my personal style is just fitted basically. Tailored. Put together.”
When asked who has the best style on her team, she barely hesitates before saying, “Me.” “Listen, I have an outfit every day, for every game,” she says, explaining why she deserves the title. “And that’s hard, because sometimes you don’t want to do it, but then you still just do it.” She also says she boasts the best shoe collection: “I’m going to say me again, bitches,” she says with a laugh. “I’m with Puma and nobody else is. And I have a plethora of Tims and loafers and UGGs that just make the fit the fit.”
