Why Travis Kelce Isn’t With Taylor Swift at Game 4 of the NBA Finals
THE RUNDOWN
- Travis Kelce couldn’t join Taylor Swift at Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
- The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is at a mandatory minicamp for the team this week.
- The Ohio native recently spoke about taking Swift to a Cleveland Cavaliers game where they played the New York Knicks.
Taylor Swift traveled from Los Angeles to New York City to watch the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the NBA Finals this evening at Madison Square Garden. Her friends Este and Alana Haim joined her, with all of them wearing Knicks pun shirts.
Her fiancé, Travis Kelce, wasn’t with them, though—but not because the Cleveland native isn’t rooting for the Knicks this season.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is unable to travel today because he is in a mandatory minicamp for his team, which runs from June 9 to 11. The Chiefs shared more photos on X of Kelce during the team event, meeting Make-A-Wish kids.
Kelce and Swift attended a Knicks game against the Cleveland Cavaliers last month, though. He spoke about the experience of showing his partner his hometown on New Heights and stressed he wasn’t trying to get her to become a Cleveland sports fan.
“This was me just having a fun date night, knowing that I love going to basketball games,” he said. “We actually tried to go to a game in New York when I was stuck in Kansas City. I love bringing her into the sports world that I appreciate. That’s why [they’ve] seen us at US Open tennis matches. I’ve had her at other baseball games.”
Still, he loved sharing his team with her. “Obviously, being a Cleveland sports fan for my entire life, getting Tay back to Cleveland and showing her my roots is always something I love doing,” he explained.
While they didn’t win the game and “it was tough to see them lose,” the energy was infectious. “Man, it was just so fun to be in the building and feel the electricity at Cleveland, being around the hometown,” he said.
Watching the Knicks play also convinced him to support them the rest of this season. “Right now, the Knicks are rolling, man,” he said. “So hats off to New York, man. I’m probably going to be rooting for them from here on out.”
