GOIL PLC wins double honour at 2025 CIMG national marketing performance awards

Ghana’s leading indigenous Oil Marketing Company, GOIL PLC, has once again demonstrated its unassailable dominance and excellence in Ghana’s highly competitive downstream petroleum industry, winning two prestigious honours at the 37th Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) Annual National Marketing Performance Awards.
GOIL PLC was adjudged the Marketing-Oriented Petroleum Company of the Year (2025) and also successfully retained its position in the prestigious CIMG Hall of Fame, Petroleum Category — a double victory that underscores the company’s sustained strategic excellence, brand resilience and customer-centric business model.
The high-profile ceremony, held in Accra at the weekend, brought together Ghana’s top corporate brands, marketing professionals, policymakers and economic leaders to celebrate marketing excellence as a driver of economic growth and national development.
Mr. Edward Abambire Bawa, Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of GOIL PLC, told Modern Ghana News that the double honour is far more than a marketing trophy, stressing, “It is a powerful economic indicator.”
He said in Ghana’s deregulated downstream petroleum sector, which features over 200 Oil Marketing Companies competing for market share, consumer trust and quality perception, marketing orientation is directly linked to economic performance, market share retention and profitability.
“Being named Marketing-Oriented Petroleum Company of the Year signifies that GOIL has excelled in the four pillars of modern economic competitiveness: product quality, pricing strategy, distribution network efficiency, and customer satisfaction,” the GOIL CEO stated.
Mr Bawa stressed that for investors, analysts and industry watchers, the award reaffirms GOIL PLC’s status on the Ghana Stock Exchange and as a strategic national asset.
“GOIL’s consistent performance continues to contribute significantly to Ghana’s energy security, tax revenue, job creation and indigenous participation in a sector often dominated by multinationals,” he said.
The GOIL PLC Managing Director also added that the retention of its Hall of Fame status in the Petroleum Category is particularly significant.
“The CIMG Hall of Fame is reserved for brands that have demonstrated consistent, best-in-class performance for three consecutive years and have set industry standards. GOIL retaining this position shows that its excellence is not episodic but systemic and sustainable,” he noted.
According to the CIMG citation, these recognitions reaffirm GOIL’s unwavering commitment to marketing excellence, customer satisfaction, innovation, and the delivery of quality fuels and value to customers.
“We dedicate these achievements to our loyal customers, dedicated staff and stakeholders whose continued trust and support drive us to do more,” Mr Bawa stated.
Meanwhile, some downstream petroleum watchers on the sidelines of the event explained in an interview with Modern Ghana News that in a period marked by global fuel price volatility, foreign exchange pressures and consumer price sensitivity, GOIL has continued to differentiate itself.
According to industry players, “GOIL has maintained strict quality control standards with its Super XP RON 95, Diesel XP and GOIL Super 97, assuring motorists of engine protection, fuel efficiency and value for money. This quality assurance is a critical economic value for transport operators and businesses where fuel is a major operational cost.
“With the largest network of service stations across Ghana’s 16 regions, GOIL ensures product availability and accessibility, reducing travel time and supply chain disruptions for consumers and industry. This nationwide presence is a major driver of economic inclusion.”
According to downstream petroleum industry observers, some specific portfolios need commendation, which includes the GOIL Rewards Loyalty programme, GOIL’s digital payment solutions, improved service station experiences, and the expansion of its GOIL lubricants and LPG offerings.
Dr William Mensah-Ansah, a Tema Based industrialist also in an interview said GOIL PLC has shown a clear understanding that the modern Ghanaian consumer demands convenience, reward and excellent service.
He stressed that, “as an indigenous company with significant Ghanaian shareholding, profits generated by GOIL stay within the Ghanaian economy, supporting local jobs, local suppliers and the national dividend through state ownership.”
Dr Mensah-Ansah stressed that GOIL’s success is built on a virtuous cycle where satisfied customers drive sales, dedicated staff provide excellent service, and supportive stakeholders, including shareholders and transporters, drive sustainability.
He said the company has over the years invested heavily in local human capital, technical training for pump attendants, and safety standards that have become benchmarks in the downstream sector. This investment in people translates into improved service quality and enhanced economic productivity.
The industrialists added that “GOIL’s double win at the CIMG Awards positions it as not just a fuel seller but a strategic partner for Ghana’s economic transformation agenda. Its marketing orientation reflects an understanding of economic dynamics, consumer behaviour and value creation.
“GOIL’s continued leadership will inspire higher marketing standards across the petroleum sector, drive competition based on quality rather than just price, and ultimately benefit the Ghanaian consumer and the broader economy.
“As the indigenous market leader continues to fly the flag of Ghana high, the awards serve as a resounding endorsement that when it comes to marketing excellence, quality fuels and good energy for the economy, GOIL PLC remains the brand to beat.”
