Ghana proposes visa waiver deal to strengthen ties with Lebanon

Ghana has proposed a visa waiver agreement with Lebanon covering diplomatic, service and ordinary passport holders to facilitate travel, promote trade and investment, and deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The proposal was made by Ghana’s Ambassador to the Republic of Lebanon, with residence in Cairo, H.E. Prof. Justice Solomon Korantwi-Barimah, when he presented his Letters of Credence to the Lebanese President, H.E. Joseph Aoun, in Beirut on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Prof. Korantwi-Barimah conveyed greetings from President John Dramani Mahama, the Government and people of Ghana, and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding relations between the two countries.
He noted that Ghana and Lebanon had maintained cordial relations dating back to the early years of Ghana’s independence in 1957, with historical ties, commercial exchanges and people-to-people contacts helping to sustain their friendship.
The Ambassador commended Lebanese businesses for their contributions to Ghana’s economic development and expressed the country’s interest in expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education, healthcare, hospitality and tourism. He said closer collaboration in those sectors could create investment opportunities, promote knowledge exchange and support economic growth in both countries.
On multilateral cooperation, Prof. Korantwi-Barimah expressed appreciation for Lebanon’s support for United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/80/250 concerning the trafficking of enslaved Africans and the racialised chattel enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity.
He also highlighted Ghana’s longstanding contribution to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), reaffirming the country’s commitment to international peace and security and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
On labour and migration, he called for closer cooperation between the two governments to promote orderly migration, strengthen labour arrangements and safeguard workers’ welfare in accordance with applicable laws and international obligations.
Prof. Korantwi-Barimah reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to work with the Lebanese government to explore new opportunities for cooperation and advance shared interests at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
