Communications Minister Sam George takes digital transformation drive to Ashanti communities

The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has embarked on a 48-hour working tour of the Ashanti Region to assess ongoing projects and obtain first-hand information on the work being undertaken by the Ministry.
The tour forms part of efforts to ensure that government investments in digital infrastructure and communication services deliver tangible benefits to Ghanaians, particularly in underserved communities.
As part of his engagements, the Minister met with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, to officially brief him on the purpose of his visit and the planned activities during his stay in the region.
Hon. Sam George explained that his decision to embark on the field tour was driven by the need to move beyond reports submitted to the Ministry and personally assess the progress and impact of projects on the ground.
According to the Minister, it is important for leadership to verify that work reported by implementing agencies and technical teams has actually been completed and is delivering the expected results.
He stressed that the ultimate objective is to ensure that Ghanaians receive value for money through improved telecommunications services, expanded digital access and the effective implementation of initiatives such as the One Million Coders Programme.
The Minister’s approach is also intended to strengthen accountability, improve project monitoring and identify challenges that may require immediate intervention.
Day One: Engagements in Kumasi, Asawase and Nkwantakese
The first day of the tour is scheduled to cover Kumasi, Asawase and Nkwantakese, beginning with a courtesy call on the Ashanti Regional Minister at the Regional Coordinating Council.
The Minister is also expected to visit the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Kwadaso Regional Information Centre and the Asawase Community Information Centre.
The day’s activities will continue with a visit to the Nkwantakese Community Information Centre in the Afigya Kwabre North District.
These engagements are expected to provide the Minister with an opportunity to assess the state of digital and information infrastructure, engage relevant stakeholders and evaluate how the facilities serve their respective communities.
Day Two: Inspection of Projects in Sekyere Afram Plains
On the second day, the Minister is scheduled to visit project inspection sites at Nyameama No. 1, Nyameama No. 2, Dawia and Abenua, all within the Sekyere Afram Plains area.
The inspections are intended to provide a direct assessment of project implementation and help establish whether the work being undertaken meets the Ministry’s expectations.
The visits also form part of the government’s broader commitment to improving access to digital services and ensuring that communities across the country benefit from investments in communications and technology.
Bringing President Mahama’s Reset Agenda to the Doorsteps of Ghanaians
The 48-hour tour reflects the government’s commitment to translating President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda into practical results that citizens can experience in their daily lives.
By taking project monitoring directly to communities, the Ministry seeks to ensure that digital transformation is not limited to policy statements and official reports but is reflected in improved connectivity, accessible information services and opportunities for digital skills development.
The Minister’s field engagements underscore the importance of accountability and hands-on leadership in delivering the government’s development priorities.
The tour is expected to provide further insight into the progress of projects across the Ashanti Region and help guide the Ministry’s efforts to improve service delivery for Ghanaians.
