9 Ways to Style Skirts and Tights This Season
One of my favorite things about fall (besides the cooler weather) is that we’ve entered tights season. Growing up, my mom dressed me for chilly school days in cozy sweater dresses and flouncy skirts paired with black, red, or white opaque tights (remember those three-packs?).
Today, tights serve the same purpose of keeping your legs warm, but the grown-up version has far more fun making a fashion statement. Take Leandra Medine Cohen’s latest collaboration with Swedish Stockings, which includes everything from shimmery fishnets to pink tiger-print stockings and sharp, glossy red tights.
Sheer black is still the dependable classic, but the real excitement is in everything else: rich chocolate brown, deep burgundy, pink shades, and even lace for a bolder statement. One of my favorite lace colors at the moment is a sheer dusty blue, which is far more versatile than you’d expect.
In 2026, chic fall and winter outfits are built around fine hosiery. Tights and skirts are a perfect fall pairing, and with ankle boots, loafers, flats, pumps, or just about any shoe, they bring an outfit to life.
Below, some skirt-and-tights inspiration to keep you excited for autumn.
Chocolaty getup
Chocolate brown is still going strong this season, and dark brown opaque tights are an easy way to keep the trend going.
Semi-sheer sophistication
Semi-sheer black tights are the dependable classic that goes with just about everything and instantly makes an outfit look polished. We love how they look with sophisticated black loafers.
Gray & a pop of blue
Gray and cobalt make an excellent pairing. These knit tights add interest to the look, especially alongside pointed flats, a denim shirt, and a slouchy puffy bag.
A splash of light brown and black
Light brown and black is an understated color combination, but this look proves how well the two work together. A light tan set feels even more elevated when paired with black tights and accessories.
Lavender + lace
Lace tights instantly give any outfit personality, adding a touch of romance to an otherwise ordinary look.
Full-on misty gray
Exhibit A that tonal gray works: light, misty gray on gray on gray, finished with a pop of black and brown croc.
Think pink
Consider this your sign that pink tights are just as wearable as black or navy. Keeping the rest of the look neutral makes them really pop.
A gray plaid mini and lilac tights
A plaid outfit already makes a statement, but the lilac tights truly pull it all together.
Fall collegiate vibes
Nothing says fall like a pair of burgundy tights. Pair them with a short pleated skirt and matching blazer for a look that feels polished and seasonal.
