Anomabo Traditional Area gears up for Okyir Festival, urges massive turnout

The Anomabo Traditional Area in the Central Region, comprising sixty-four (64) towns and communities, will celebrate its annual Okyir Festival from 5 to 11 October this year, with a call on all citizens of Anomabo and the general public to participate fully.

For the grand durbar, Kantamanto Amonu XII and the Paramount Queen Mother, Nana Mbroba Dabo I, have invited Prof. Nana Ama Brown Klutse, Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as the Special Guest of Honour.

The weeklong event, packed with activities, will climax with a grand durbar on Saturday, 10 October 2026, under the theme “Projecting Cultural Heritage Through Development and Restoring Hope.”

Activities will include a clean-up exercise on Tuesday; Akoms Night; a Pink Friday street carnival; and Mbroba Dabo Kitchen, a cooking contest in which women from across the Anomabo Traditional Area, including the Home Economics Department of Kwegyir Aggrey Senior High Technical School, will receive stipends to prepare local Ghanaian dishes.

In an interview with a reporter, Nana Kofi Amentuw, the Mpontuhen (Development Chief) of the Anomabo Traditional Council, announced that a crusade called Okyir for Christ would be held on 5, 6 and 7 October, organised by all the churches in Anomabo.

Nana Amentuw added that on Friday, 9 October, traditional authorities within the area would parade through the principal streets of Anomabo with a cow.

Nana Amentuw also said that shortly after the grand durbar, in the evening, there would be a street carnival for the youth, featuring musician Kofi Kinaata on Saturday. It will be sponsored by Blue Jeans Energy Drink.

According to him, “On Sunday, there will be a thanksgiving service in all the churches in Anomabo. Every church will host a chief and a queen mother to thank God for peaceful Okyir celebrations.”
