NADMO donates engine-powered boat to Kpasenkpe Traditional Area for safe transportation across White Volta

The North East Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has donated an engine-powered boat and life jackets to the Kpasenkpe Traditional Area in the West Mamprusi Municipality to support safe transportation across the White Volta.

The donation follows a request made by the community during NADMO’s assessment visit last year.

According to NADMO’s Director of Operations, Col. Lawrence Ahlie, the request was forwarded to the Director-General, Major Dr Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, who subsequently made provision for the boat.

Col. Ahlie congratulated the two trained Disaster Volunteer Group members who will operate the boat and cautioned that only trained personnel should operate it to prevent accidents and loss of lives and property.

He also stressed the importance of regular maintenance to ensure the boat remains in good condition and serves the community for a long time.

The Municipal Chief Executive for West Mamprusi, Hon. Mohammed Rabiyu Jabaa, welcomed the intervention and pledged the Assembly’s support towards maintaining the boat.

He noted that the boat would provide much-needed relief to residents, particularly during the rainy season, when crossing the White Volta can become difficult.

He said the intervention would also improve access to healthcare and other essential services for residents who depend on the river for transportation.

The Regent and elders of the Kpasenkpe Traditional Area expressed appreciation to NADMO and the Government of Ghana for the support.

They pledged to ensure the boat is used responsibly for the benefit of the people of Kpasenkpe and neighbouring communities.

The donation forms part of efforts to improve disaster preparedness, safety and access for communities living along the White Volta, particularly during the rainy season.
