Fon Group donates 6,000 exercise books to GETFund to support education

The Fon Group, a leading manufacturing group, has donated 6,000 copies of Note 1 exercise books to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 for onward distribution to basic schools across the country, particularly those in deprived communities.

The donation, made at the head office of GETFund in Accra, was done under the GETFund Education Financing and Partnership Initiative (EFPI), a flagship programme aimed at bridging the funding gap in the education sector.

The initiative, introduced by the current Administrator of the Fund, Mr. Paul Adjei, seeks to partner the private sector to solicit support, both in cash and in kind, to complement the government’s efforts at delivering quality education.

Under the arrangement, the books will be distributed to selected basic schools based on a needs assessment conducted by GETFund, with schools in deprived areas given priority.

Receiving the items, Mr Paul Adjei, expressed profound gratitude to the Fon Group for the gesture.

He said the intervention would help mitigate a major challenge confronting teaching and learning in many basic schools where pupils lack basic learning materials.

“This donation will go a long way to ensure that the Ghanaian child has access to quality education. We are grateful to Fon Group for this demonstration of commitment to education,” he said.

The Administrator used the occasion to appeal to private institutions, corporate bodies and international organisations to emulate the example of Fon Group and support GETFund’s drive to improve education delivery in the country.

For his part, the Founder of Fon Group, Mr. Fredrick Osafo Ntim, said his outfit was moved by the alarming deficit in educational resources in many schools.

He described the situation where pupils go to school without exercise books as worrying and inimical to effective teaching and learning, hence the decision to intervene through GETFund.

Mr. Emmanuel Osei Ntim, General Manager and Key Leader of Fon Group stressed that the responsibility of fixing the deficit cannot be left to government alone. He added that the donation will not be the first and last as he pledges to continue to do more to support quality education in Ghana.

GETFund is expected to receive more major donations from other institutions later in the day, a clear indication that the EFPI is gaining traction among private sector players.

The EFPI has in recent months seen a surge in private sector participation, with many corporate entities donating learning materials, infrastructure and financial support to GETFund to support its mandate.
