Mahama approves recruitment of 1,200 additional NACOC staff to fight drug trafficking — Agalga

President John Dramani Mahama has approved the recruitment of 1,200 additional personnel for the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) as part of efforts to strengthen the agency’s capacity to combat drug trafficking, according to the Majority in Parliament.

Majority Leader and Builsa North MP James Agalga said the latest recruitment would help address NACOC’s staffing deficit and provide personnel for the Commission’s expanding district commands.

Speaking to journalists, Mr Agalga said the recruitment would build on the 495 officers trained by NACOC in 2025, which he described as part of efforts to increase the Commission’s operational presence across the country.

“This government has more than doubled NACOC’s staff, training 495 new officers in 2025 alone, the largest number of officers to ever graduate from NACOC. This isn’t just a number. It’s the difference between an agency that can respond and an agency that can be there in communities at borders along the path traffickers go to exploit. This government has taken it a step further,” he said.

He said the additional 1,200 personnel would help close longstanding staffing gaps while enabling NACOC to adequately staff its growing network of district commands.

“His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s government has approved the recruitment of another 1200 staff for Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), a bold and consistent move that will go a long way to fill the deficit in the Commission’s staffing,” he said.

Mr Agalga said the expansion of the Commission’s personnel would support its efforts to respond more effectively to drug trafficking activities across the country.
