Carrie Coon Kept Her Look Understated for Her 4th Emmys Appearance

Carrie Coon’s The Gilded Age character, Bertha Russell, would never turn down an opportunity to dress for a major occasion. Neither, apparently, would Coon.

For this year’s Emmys, she celebrated her Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series nomination for the HBO drama in a sweeping navy gown that traded her character’s corsets and bustles for a much cleaner silhouette. The long-sleeved Maison Margiela design featured a high neckline, sculpted shoulders, a closely fitted waist, and a full skirt that skimmed the floor.

The gown did most of the talking. Stylist Alicia Lombardini accessorized the ensemble with De Beers London diamonds, including a V-shaped necklace that brought a touch of sparkle to the high-neck silhouette, along with diamond studs and rings. Christian Louboutin shoes and a Tyler Ellis bag completed the look.

Coon’s hair got a little embellishment of its own as well. Hairstylist DJ Quintero worked it into soft, face-framing waves, while makeup artist Rebecca Restrepo kept her glam similarly understated with glowing skin and a glossy lip.

The evening marked Coon’s fourth career Emmy nomination—and her second for playing Bertha. She was also nominated last year for her turn as Laurie Duffy on The White Lotus, making this her third consecutive year with a seat among the nominees.

Lately, Coon has been thinking about her own evolving place in the entertainment world. “I guess I still feel new to the industry in some ways because I came to TV and film quite late, and yet I also understand that I’m a veteran on some level too,” she told The Pitt’s Taylor Dearden in an April Q&A with Interview.
