On Friday, Lady Gaga and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, publicly announced that they welcomed their first child.
A source later told People that they “both beam when they talk about being parents.” Polansky, the source said, “seems lighter, happier.” He and Gaga also reportedly “both took time off of work this summer to be with [the] baby.”
Before stepping away from work, Gaga was having a particularly busy season. She wrapped her Mayhem Ball Tour in April, then released Mayhem Requiem, a concert film and live album released via Apple Music, in May. She also appeared in The Devil Wears Prada 2 and contributed the song “Runway,” with Doechii, to the film’s soundtrack.
Meanwhile, Polansky continued his work in tech and biotech. He is the co-founder of Outer Biosciences, an AI and biology startup focused on developing new compounds through human-tissue research, and was still speaking publicly about the company in August. Beyond being romantic partners, Gaga also sits on the board of his company. In fact, one of the companies Outer works with is the singer’s own beauty brand Haus Labs. He’s also credited as an executive producer on Mayhem.
Polansky told TechCrunch that the couple met through Gaga’s mother, president of the Born This Way Foundation, who insisted on setting them up and told her daughter, “I think I met your husband.” When they and their mothers finally met, “it all made perfect sense,” he said.
“People really haven’t gotten to know a certain side of her publicly,” he continued. “She’s such a brilliant businessperson.”
The news of them pausing their work to prioritize parenthood isn’t surprising when you consider the context. “I think I felt for a long time like I was navigating this thing on my own and it was hard,” Gaga told Stephen Colbert nearly a year ago, “and it’s not anymore.”
Gaga and Polansky got engaged in April, and the singer started setting her sights on the two starting a family of their own. “I would like to do many things…but what I really want is to be a mom. That’s my next starring role.”
