Birkenstock’s Boho Chapter Has Arrived

Estimated read time1 min read

Is there a more versatile shapeshifter than Birkenstock? The German sandal has had its French girl and balletcore moments—and now, it’s taking a turn for the bohemian. Announced today, the brand’s latest collaboration with Etro, the Italian label known for its intricate patterns and maximalist sensibility, brings a more ornate, romantic sensibility to its familiar everyday ease.

The beloved Boston clog, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, is reimagined with paisley motifs, Western-inspired buckles, and nappa leather finishes. The Gizeh thong sandal, available in chocolate brown and beige suede, features fringe accents and metallic rivets.

Etro

Etro teased the collaboration at its fall/winter 2026 runway show during Milan Fashion Week in February, where the flat-soled shoes appeared alongside the brand’s broader bohemian universe. Styled with buttery leather riding coats, paisley-print swing dresses, and burgundy intarsia sweaters with tasseled shoulders, they made a case for a more polished kind of boho—one that’s set to follow us into fall.

The Birkenstock by Etro collection is available globally on September 10 at Etro.com, 1774.com, and select Etro and Birkenstock boutiques. Consider it the first chapter of the partnership, with more to come from the duo in the months ahead.
