Lili Reinhart’s Butter Yellow Dress Is a Nod to Kate Hudson’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Look

Lili Reinhart is in the middle of promoting The Love Hypothesis, and she’s not bereft of lore or looks.

On September 6, the actress posted a playful carousel on Instagram in which she posed in a long silk butter yellow dress that was reminiscent of Kate Hudson’s iconic Andie Anderson look in 2003’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Reinhart paired the photos with the 2015 remastering of Carly Simon’s classic “You’re So Vain” to make the throwback even clearer to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days fans. She quoted the song’s lyrics, writing, “you probably think this song is about you,” before adding that she’s “paying homage” to Hudson’s beloved character.

The dress, her stylist, Ib Abdel Nasser, tells ELLE, is a 2000s Caché dupe released soon after the film.

The original was a one-of-a-kind piece made for Hudson by Carolina Herrera in collaboration with the movie’s costume designer, Karen Patch. Its hue was unique, too. According to an oral history in Vanity Fair, the original dress’s color was made to match the Isadora diamond on the Harry Winston necklace Hudson’s character almost accidentally leaves with during the film’s climactic gala.

Reinhart posed in the dress at a hotel in Brazil after completing The Love Hypothesis’s Latin American press junket.

This won’t be her only rom-com tribute look, either, Nasser says: “Lili will be paying homage to the leading ladies of the Golden Age of rom-coms and romance films throughout the press tour, and we wanted to start off with something super iconic for Brazil since they’re some of the most passionate and dedicated fans!”

Like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Reinhart’s upcoming film is also inspired by a book. The novel by Ali Hazelwood has a huge fan base, and Reinhart, who is also an executive producer on the film, took their expectations seriously.

“For book-to-screen adaptations, I think what people are really looking for is not a play-by-play of the book, but rather the feeling that the book elicits for the readers,” she told ELLE earlier this month. “People want to feel, when they’re watching your movie, how they felt when they were reading the book. That’s giggling, and kicking their feet, and blushing for the other person, and getting excited to watch two people fall in love. And I think we really did that.”

Nasser and Reinhart have been having a ball with styling selects on this press run. Thus far, the actress has worn archival Roberto Cavalli, Leo Lin, and Emanuel Ungaro by Giambattista Valli. Surely the best is yet to come.
