Effutu, Gomoa Central Assemblies to pay medical bills of 17 injured in New Winneba deadly clash
The Effutu Municipal and Gomoa Central District Assemblies have agreed to settle the medical expenses of 17 people who sustained injuries during the violent clash over the ownership of New Winneba.
The decision was announced on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, after officials from the two assemblies visited the affected communities and the hospitals where the injured victims are receiving treatment.
The confrontation reportedly erupted after residents from Gomoa Pomadze, Ayensuadze and Oguaakrom entered New Winneba to assert claims over the community.
The violence resulted in three deaths and left 17 people injured, with several of the victims reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds.
Following an assessment of the situation, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Atta Mensah, said the two assemblies had agreed to work together to ensure that the victims receive the necessary medical attention without worrying about their hospital bills.
“We came here and realised that most of them suffered gun injuries, and so we have promised to collaborate with the two assemblies and make sure we take care of their hospital bills.”
Mr Mensah also said additional security measures had been introduced to protect residents and prevent a recurrence of the violence.
The Gomoa Central District Chief Executive, Hackman Kwabena Adu, appealed to residents and community leaders to exercise restraint as efforts continue to ease tensions.
He also urged politicians and other influential individuals to avoid comments or actions that could heighten tensions and trigger further confrontation.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested six people suspected of involvement in the violence.
They are 52-year-old Kweku Kakraba; 19-year-olds Arko Thomas and Samuel Tulasi; 22-year-olds Samuel Gyasi, Emmanuel Okyere and Seth Osei.
The police have also stepped up security operations in New Winneba, including the establishment of checkpoints and increased surveillance, to prevent further violence and maintain peace in the area.
