HeFRA assess six facilities’ readiness to start free primary healthcare in Volta
The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has inspected six facilities in the Volta Region designated to provide free primary healthcare services to residents.
The facilities are located at Wodome in the Agortime-Ziope District, Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality, Mepe-Zortikpo in the North Tongu District, Sogakope in the South Tongu District, Mafi-Asiekpe in the Central Tongu District and Whuti-Srongbe in the Anloga District.
The inspection was to assess the facilities’ readiness to provide safe, accessible and quality primary healthcare, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations.
Speaking to the Media, Mr Divine Kporha, Volta Regional Director of HeFRA, said the facilities had been equipped with essential clinical, diagnostic, patient-care, infection-prevention and emergency equipment to enhance service delivery.
He said the equipment included digital blood pressure monitors, sphygmomanometers, stethoscopes, thermometers, pulse oximeters, weighing scales, glucometers, haemoglobin meters, oxygen cylinders with regulators, examination tables, drip stands, nebulisers, dressing trolleys and wheelchairs.
Mr Kporha said the facilities had also received hospital beds, bedside lockers, bedpans, pillows, vaccine carriers, baby weighing scales and other equipment to improve patient care and ward management.
He said infection prevention and consumable supplies, including examination and surgical gloves, hand sanitisers, face masks, gauze, syringes, needles, IV cannulas, giving sets and biological waste bins, had also been provided.
The facilities were further supplied with essential medicines and medical supplies, including antibiotics, analgesics, antimalarials, antihypertensives, intravenous fluids, insulin, paracetamol and other basic medicines, alongside malaria and pregnancy test kits and blood glucose and haemoglobin testing strips.
Mr Kporha said other items provided included furniture, administrative materials, sanitation equipment and fire extinguishers, adding that the resources would strengthen service readiness, patient safety and infection prevention.
He said HeFRA would continue to ensure that health facilities met the required regulatory standards to promote quality healthcare delivery and support the attainment of Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
