Everything We Know About the Romy and Michele Sequel
On Friday, Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino were at the 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, to give an update on the sequel to their 1997 hit Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.
The two stars appeared onstage with some looks from the film, bringing back their iconic fashion and style, which is a key feature of the original story. In fact, they ended that movie with their very own boutique.
Here’s everything we know about the new Romy and Michele so far.
What is the Romy and Michele sequel about?
The original film follows two best friends who decide to go to their high school reunion, despite being considered “losers” back when they were teenagers. Their plan is to lie about their success as very important businesswomen, but when the lie is exposed, they’re humiliated all over again. Once they decide to just be themselves, things turn around. The movie is all about friendship, authenticity, and the importance of a well-choreographed dance number.
The new plot isn’t fully revealed, but during their D23 appearance, the two stars hinted at the search for “true love” during a “new phase” of their lives.
And in photos taken on the set in July, it looks like there will be at least one big proposal.
Who is starring in the Romy and Michele sequel?
In addition to Kudrow and Sorvino, Alan Cumming will be back as Sandy Fink, Camryn Manheim as Toby Walters, and Jeanine Garofalo as Heather Mooney. They’ll be joined by newcomers Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.
When will the Romy and Michele sequel be released?
The film will exclusively stream on Hulu in 2027.
