Furious Is the Newest Must-See New Serial-Killer Thriller
2 min readWe all love a good binge-worthy thriller, but with so much out there, it’s often difficult to separate the “maybe watch” from the “must-watch.” Furious, a new eight-episode series on Hulu and Disney+, sits firmly in the latter category, as a brilliant and captivating drama exploring female rage via three complex characters.
At its heart, the series grapples with everything from sex trafficking to domestic abuse, with violence against women forming a core theme of the series. It was created by Elizabeth Meriwether, who also gave us Dying for Sex with Michelle Williams and 2022’s The Dropout—a name that immediately sets expectations high.
While the story itself was reportedly inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow, the storylines differ considerably, and Furious feels markedly modern. The Guardian gave the show four stars, dubbing it “enormously entertaining TV that demands you pay attention” and a “must-see for Killing Eve fans.” Meanwhile, NME wrote that the show “flips the overworked serial killer genre on its head to explore a story carved out in the post-Epstein era,” in a story that will have you “rooting for the killer.”

What happens in Furious?
When a wealthy man dies in what appears to be an overdose, it’s the former NYPD homicide cop Alice Black who notices a well-hidden pattern. The story follows a cat-and-mouse game between her and the quick-witted serial killer Catherine, who is revealed to target men connected to exploitation and abuse.
However, as Alice gets closer to tracking down the source of the murders, larger questions surrounding justice, revenge, and trauma come into focus.
Who is in the cast of Furious?
Shameless star Emmy Rossum plays Alice, a former homicide detective who now works on the bottom rung of the FBI as a probationary duty agent after exposing corruption in her old department.
Meanwhile, Lola Petticrew, from shows including Trespasses and Anne Boleyn, plays the chillingly cool serial killer Catherine. The cast is rounded out by Quincy Tyler Bernstine playing a ruthless veteran FBI agent and Jake Lacy, who you’ll know from How to Be Single and The White Lotus, playing Marshall, an officer with a deeply intertwined connection to Alice.
