Tyla has never been one to fit into a single category. Her sophomore album, A*Pop, is as fearless and genre-bending as her one-of-one wardrobe—and she’s carrying that same energy into everything that comes next.

Coinciding with her album drop, Tyla has officially been named the newest global brand ambassador for Kate Spade New York, stepping into the spotlight as the face of the brand’s fall 2026 campaign. The partnership arrives at a pivotal moment for the New York label, which recently welcomed Jonathan Saunders as its executive creative director.

Shot in the brand’s hometown of New York City, Tyla puts the spotlight on the Duo Mini Shoulder Bag. “Kate Spade as a brand is colorful, creative, and expressive, which is also the feel for my new album, A*Pop,” Tyla tells ELLE.

Offered in a lineup of punchy new colorways—including the rich fuchsia Beet and earthy Laurel Leaf—the crescent-shaped silhouette feels right at home alongside the singer’s playful, color-loving A*Pop aesthetic. Just look at how she styled it: pairing the bag with a cropped knit polo and low-rise flared jeans left casually unzipped at the waist, giving the polished accessory her signature Y2K attitude.

Below, Tyla takes ELLE behind the scenes of her latest campaign, opening up about the colorful style language of A*Pop, the beauty staple she always keeps close, and the unexpectedly retro tech tucked inside her handbag.

Do you have a favorite Kate Spade campaign—aside from yours?

I loved the Miss Piggy holiday campaign.

The campaign centers on finding joy in the everyday. What are the little moments that spark joy for you?

I love spending time with my family and friends; it brings me joy and keeps me grounded.

Your personal style is so distinct. How would you describe it in three words?

The vibe for A*Pop is all neon colors, feathers, body paint, and colorful makeup, so my style right now reflects that.

Do you prefer a mini bag or an oversize tote?

I love both! When I’m traveling, I love a big, oversize bag to carry everything I need and a small bag for a night out or when I’m going to a party. The Duo Mini Shoulder Bag is perfect for that.

Your music and fashion are so intertwined. How do your clothes help you tell the story of this new era?

That’s always been part of who I am—growing up in South Africa, style and music were never separate; you dressed for the feeling.

Is there one song on A*Pop that you’re most excited to perform live?

I was so excited to perform “That Girl” on Today’s summer concert series. It’s the perfect song to hear in the club during the summer with your girls.

What’s one thing you’re hoping to manifest for this next chapter?

I can’t wait to perform A*Pop on tour later this year. I’m going on a world tour starting in October. I can’t wait to see all my Tygers in the crowd!
