Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag Mask Has Outlasted Every Viral Skin Care Trend in My Routine
There’s no shortage of viral overnight masks promising glass skin by morning, and as someone who tests beauty launches for a living, I’ve tried more than I can count. Still, no matter how many viral products and new formulas land on my desk, I always find myself reaching for the same tube for six years straight: Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag Mask. This is the product I rely on whenever my skin feels dehydrated, irritated, or in the middle of a rosacea flare-up.
While K-beauty favorites, like Medicube’s PDRN Mask and Biodance’s Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask, leave my skin looking radiant and glassy, Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag Mask helps restore my skin when it’s at its most compromised. During a rosacea flare-up, my complexion becomes inflamed, breakout-prone, visibly red, and intensely sensitive. My skin barrier is compromised and stripped, and this rich, fragrance-free formula is one of the few products that immediately comforts my reactive skin.
The formula is packed with ingredients that support a healthy skin barrier. Glycerin and hyaluronic acid attract and retain moisture to help replenish dehydrated skin, while allantoin, bisabolol, panthenol, and cucumber extract work together to soothe visible irritation. Niacinamide rounds out the formula by helping reduce the appearance of redness, supporting the skin barrier, and improving overall tone and radiance. Together, these ingredients leave my skin looking calmer, healthier, and noticeably more luminous in just a few uses.
Beyond its skin-loving ingredients, part of what makes the Jet Lag Mask such a staple is its versatility. With a thick texture right from the tube, it can be thinned out into a lightweight veil that hydrates the skin without feeling heavy or sticky. According to the brand, it can be applied as a daytime or nighttime moisturizer; as a hydrating eye cream; layered on more generously as a rinse-off mask; or used anywhere else on the body where the skin needs extra moisture—from dry hands to rough patches. I’ve even used it as a lip balm.
Personally, I reach for it most often as the final step in my nighttime routine, applying a generous layer as an overnight mask (sometimes in place of a moisturizer), just like a slugging treatment (remember that?). It’s the reset my skin needs when it’s flaring. By morning, my redness has noticeably calmed, my breakouts look less inflamed, and the sensitized feeling is gone. After another night or two, my skin feels balanced again—soft, hydrated, and supple. Sometimes, it’s hard to believe a flare-up happened in the first place.
Lately in the summer, it’s become my favorite post-beach treatment. After a day in saltwater or chlorinated pools, when my skin feels tight, dehydrated, and rough, a generous layer restores much-needed hydration and brings the softness back to my skin.
The full-size tube has earned a permanent place in my skin care drawer, while the travel-size version is always in my carry-on. Long flights, changing climates, and disrupted routines almost always trigger a flare-up for me, making it one of the few skin care products I need with me at all times.
Another sleeper hit we think is worth it? The Gentle Reset Daily Exfoliating Pads, a winner in our annual First Class Beauty Awards. Each dual-sided pad is individually wrapped (making it ideal for travel). Plus, it’s soaked in a gentle but effective solution of glycolic, lactic, and mandelic acids along with PHA gluconolactone, aloe water, and glycerin to exfoliate and hydrate the skin. “By day four, the glow was still there, but the breakouts weren’t. The rogue cheek spot I’d been battling for weeks was noticeably lighter,” says beauty commerce editor Nerisha Penrose in her review.
Summer Fridays’ Lip Butter Balm is an ELLE-editor favorite, and each of us has our own signature hue. “Poppy is the one shade I love pairing with a cool-toned brown lip liner,” says Penrose. Commerce writer Laura Tarafa and beauty editor Katie Berohn prefer Pink Sugar for its nostalgic scent of “buttercream icing” and “sugar cookie batter” as they described, respectively, in our review. I reach for Brown Sugar for a perfectly warm nude lip.
