Should You Highlight Your Boobs? Olandria Says Yes
Summer is the season of glowy skin. And while body oils and shimmering body mists will always have their place, if former Love Island contestant Olandria Carthen has anything to say about it, now is the time to take your body glow routine to another level by highlighting your chest. If you’ve seen Carthen on recent red carpets, then you likely spotted a glittery accent on her décolletage. The looks have varied from golden hues that decorate curves, like the makeup look that she wore at June’s BET Awards, to the shimmering blue line that peeked out from the teardrop cutout of the white lace dress that Carthen wore to celebrate her Sports Illustrated feature in May.
Combined with her shining, almost wet-looking skin, the reality star is raising the question: Should we all be wearing boob highlighter? The answer: yes, absolutely, according to Carthen’s makeup artist, Kimora Mulan, who champions a more playful approach to makeup. “I’m so glad we are back to experimenting with color and creating fun looks like this, especially following the minimal soft glam craze of the last few years,” says Mulan. “People are playing again. That’s what we did with these looks.”
Chest shimmer has now gained traction both on TikTok and among other celebrities, with singers Tyla and Zara Larsson both trying their own versions of the colorful body highlight. “We had no idea that it would become a trend the way it did,” says Mulan. “We thought it was so subtle that people wouldn’t even notice it.” But of course, once BeautyTok caught wind, makeup lovers were rushing to imitate the look. Below, Mulan shares the easy three-step process for the perfect body highlight.
Step 1: Moisturize
Mulan says it is important to begin with deeply moisturized skin. For Carthen’s slick-looking glow, Mulan starts with the Patrick Ta Major Glow High Shine Skin Perfecting Body Crème.
Step 2: Glow
After moisturizing, Mulan applies the Vaseline Glazed and Glisten Shimmering Gel Oil. “We always add this on top of her moisturizer and it leaves her skin looking so shiny she almost looks wet,” says Mulan. This base step helps to create a foundation for the glitters to stick to for a longer-lasting result.
Step 3: Highlight
Finally, simply apply your powder highlight to the chest with a brush for a glowy accent that will last all day or night. “I recommend using a multichrome highlighter for a more iridescent finish that catches the light better than a standard glitter highlighter,” says Mulan.
For a similar glowy, pigmented finish to Carthen’s signature body highlight, Mulan recommends the Danessa Myricks Lightworks palettes. But for any die-hard Olandria fans looking to get her exact body shimmer, we have on good authority that there is “something special” in the works for the makeup duo, according to Mulan.
