This Natural Deodorant Finally Won Me Over
I’ve never put much stock in “natural” deodorants. So long as a deodorant works and doesn’t make me smell like B.O., I’ll use it. But after a few too many times of using a drugstore option that kind of smells like a high school locker room and clashes with my perfume, I decided it was time to broaden my horizons. I smelled Each & Every’s newest (and limited-edition for summer) scent, Après Sea, and decided it smelled too good not to at least give it a spin.
My favorite scents capture moments in time. I like a perfume that reminds me of a mid-July sunset, a cozy winter afternoon in a room that feels like a snow globe, or a flashback to running through the sprinklers in my parents’ backyard. This deodorant also conjures a specific place. With notes of woody cypress and fresh cucumber, it smells like sunset on an East Coast beach on a perfect day in July, clear sky and blue water. I’ve never said this about deodorant before, but I truly can’t stop sniffing it when I wear it.
I will say that it does not stop you from sweating. It does have tapioca starch to help soak up some of your sweat, but unlike an antiperspirant, it doesn’t prevent sweat from coming out of your pores—that can only be achieved by aluminum plugging your sweat glands. It does, however, stop you from smelling bad. Even after a workout during which I did sweat quite a bit, my underarms still smelled like cypress and cucumber afterward. And it helped solve the bane of my existence—deodorant marks on my clothes. I’m typically covered in them (I change my mind about my outfits a lot), but this formula doesn’t leave any white marks on my shirts.
If I’m in a situation where I need to make sure I’m not sweating, I’ll probably still reach for an aluminum antiperspirant. But I’m calling this my special occasion deodorant, because it pairs well with every single one of my fragrances and works well for a natural option. Now when I want to be transported to the beach, it’s just a swipe away.
